Can’t Change Your Username on Snapchat? Here’s What You Can Do
I am sure that there are many of you out there who had
created their Snapchat accounts a long time ago and are now stuck with some
pretty embarrassing usernames. To the ones who have attempted to change your
usernames, you’d know how difficult this task can prove to be. Given how easy
it is to sign up; all you need to do is enter your name, phone number, date of
birth, your password, make up a username, and you’re ready to go! This brief
sign up lets you enter thoughtless usernames that you enter assuming it’s just
for the time being, and before you know it, you’re married to your first
username.
However, it’s never too late, so here’s what you should know
about Snapchat’s user policies before you sign up.
Your Username Cannot Be Changed
Yes, you’re stuck with it. Snapchat’s stand on this matter
is that it’s for “security reasons.” Even if you did magically happen to
acquire a new username, none of the data from your old account (old username)
would be available to you. So you either be ready to wipe everything clean and
start afresh, or you keep on going with your username. If you haven’t made your
account on Snapchat yet, I hope that you will make wiser decisions unlike the
rest of us.
What Else Can You Do?
While there are many things with Snapchat that you don’t
have control over, here’s what you can control. Your display name can easily be
changed. All you have to do is go to settings and select “name.” Simply enter
the display name that you want and hit save. If you’re still haunted by your
username, you could delete your account. It might seem like a bit much, but
it’s the only way to get rid of your username on Snapchat. Delete your account
and open a fresh one. Another thing to keep in mind is that your new display
name will not be visible to the people who have already added you. It is only
for the users that will befriend you from that point onward.
However, with everything that Snapchat has to offer, this is
just a minor setback. It is their stringent security policies that let you send
ghost messages and snaps after all. Using a proper username may not sound a big
deal at the start, but it can become a problem later on.
